The first capoeira music seminar in the region
Dear capoeiristas, we invite you to the fourth edition of our workshop dedicated to Capoeira music! In our first “Music Guide” workshop, we covered general music concepts and music theory, and went over the basics of playing each instrument used in Capoeira. Volumes 2 and 3 were dedicated to the berimbau and pandeiro. The focus of this seminar will be the ATABAQUE and AGOGO and will be led by Contramestre Vento.
With over two decades of capoeira experience, in-depth knowledge of percussion, and a passion for music, Contramestre Vento will guide this two-day seminar.
Workshop agenda
• History of Atabaque
• Tuning and maintenance of the instrument
• Playing technique and various pre-exercises to practice the technique
• Different rhythms and decorations (capoeira, samba, congo de ouro, ijexá, barra vento…)
• Simultaneous playing and singing in the bateria
• Roda – playing, singing, and practicing the rhythms we’ve worked on
*Each day will conclude with a roda where participants will have the opportunity to play instruments and practice capoeira. Bring comfortable clothes (it does not have to be capoeira clothes).
The workshop is open to all capoeira players, regardless of their experience and seniority, because the program covers basic as well as advanced knowledge of capoeira music.
