The first capoeira music seminar in the region
Dear capoeiristas, we invite you to the second edition of our workshop dedicated to capoeira music! Last year, we explored music theory, general aspects of capoeira music, and the basics of playing all capoeira instruments. This year’s seminar will focus on BERIMBAU, and will be led by Contramestre Vento.
With over two decades of capoeira experience, in-depth knowledge of percussion, and a passion for music, Contramestre Vento will guide this two-day seminar.
Workshop agenda
- Recap of topics from the previous workshop
- History of Berimbau
- Overview of common capoeira rhythms and embellishments (variations)
- Tuning and maintenance of instruments
- Tuning the bateria and understanding the role of each instrument in it
- Exercises to improve rhythm skills
- Types of songs in capoeira
- Simultaneous playing and singing in the bateria
- Roda – playing, singing, and practicing the rhythms we’ve worked on
*Each day will conclude with a roda where participants will have the opportunity to play instruments and practice capoeira. Bring comfortable clothes (it does not have to be capoeira clothes).
The workshop is open to all capoeira players, regardless of their experience and seniority, because the program covers basic as well as advanced knowledge of capoeira music.
